Hawaiʻi needs a Special Legislative Session Now!

Time for Real Leadership

This is not an ordinary time. Instead of restoring healthcare and reopening the government, Trump has targeted a mythical enemy within. He is recruiting the largest secret police force in the world. He is turning the military on our cities. He has called for vengeance on blue states like ours. And no one in DC is stopping him.

That’s why we need the Hawaiʻi State Legislature and Governor to meet the moment. This is the time for real leadership.

Take Action: #SpecialSessionNow

Write and call your State Representative, State Senator, and the Governor to act without delay. Tell them you want a special session, November 17-21, 2025, ensuring:

1. No secret police

We need state legislation banning law enforcement agents from wearing masks and requiring them to have clear agency identification. (If CA can, HI can do it, too.)

2. No closure of health centers or hospitals

Trump's cuts to healthcare funding threaten our hospitals and clinics. We need state funding to fill the gap.

3. No taking food from keiki and kupuna

Trump’s cuts to the food programs could leave more keiki and kupuna hungry. We also need state funding to fill this gap.

4. No secret committees controlling state funding

We need transparency on how our tax dollars are used, and no funds should be allocated without public oversight.

  • Why now?

If the legislature waits for the 2026 regular session, these protective measures will be buried in the usual avalanche of 3,000 bills introduced at the beginning of a session.

In a special legislative session, they only examine the specific issues identified for the session. If passed in the regular Spring 2026 session, they may not become law until July 2026 and might not take effect until 2027.

That’s a year of preventable harm.

  • Why call all of them?

The Governor has the authority to call a special session, but he, too, needs to hear clear support from the State House, Senate, and all of us.

He needs to hear it now.

    1. Call and email Governor Josh Green. Use the form on his website and/or call his office at 808-586-0034.

    2. If you are unsure about your district lines or who to contact in West Hawaiʻi, you can look them up on this resource page:
