Civics 101: free online course
The U.S. Government is based on the U.S. Constitution
The U.S. Constitution starts with “We, the People,” but let’s be honest: Our democracy is fragile, wobbling, and under attack. While it was a brilliant experiment in the 18th century, in the 21st century, layers of historical accident have become law. Bad actors are in power, turning the beautiful machine they taught us about in junior high against its citizens.
We are at risk of losing our democratic form of government—you, we, everyone. We heard about fascism in faraway places, and many proclaimed, “It can’t happen here.” They were wrong. Authoritarian breakthroughs are happening here and now.
Be encouraged that this “massive ship” can be turned in a new direction. However, to protect our democracy, we need to know how it is supposed to work. That’s why Harvard University offers a FREE online course. Learn how early American politics informed the U.S. Constitution and why its promise of liberty and equality has yet to be fully realized.
