A People’s Movement

Indivisible is a grassroots organization powered by chapters like ours. We are one of five groups on the Big Island, all collaborating on topics of countywide, statewide, and nationwide concern.

The Hawaii statewide network takes the lead with our Oahu officials. We are all inspired by Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg, who wrote Indivisible: A Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink and formed the national organization.

Come and join us. We are one of 2,500+ chapters across the US that came together in 2025 to protect our democracy. We met at our first protest on February 5, 2025, joining our sisters from Matriarchy Rising. Before that, few of us had met one another. Now we join hands regularly.

Yes, We Can (and We Must)

We the People can and must save our democracy. Do not get discouraged. History shows that motivated and dedicated people have succeeded in changing oppressive governments all over the world. We can do this as well. You may have heard of the magical 3.5% figure. This figure comes from research conducted by Dr. Erika Chenowith and others on peaceful protest opposition movements. Those studies show that once you get 3.5% of a population to participate in sustained peaceful protest, change almost always happens. Although 3.5% sounds like a lot (3.5% of the US population is 12 million people), it is doable. After all, almost 78 million Amercians voted for someone other than Donald Trump in the 2024 election. We only need to get 15% of those people to join us in sustained action. Yes, we can! Watch these videos from Erika Chenowith to learn more about how sustained peaceful protest movements can succeed. Here is a TED talk she gave in 2015 and a more recent presentation on Civil Resistance.
